MAGIC (Metropolitan Area Gender Identity Connection) is a support group for transsexuals in the greater Washington, DC area. Active for over 14 years, we discuss everything from philosophy and feelings to practical matters such as legal issues and medical problems and solutions.

The group is mainly for transsexuals and people considering whether they are transsexual or not, where "transsexuals" may include both female to male (or male to male) and male to female (or female to female). Family, friends, and significant others are always very welcome. Friendly parties such as psychotherapists, physicians, electrologists and so forth, are regular attendees providing professional support and insight.

We meet the third Friday of every month, starting at 8pm.

Stephanie Thomas and Ukea Davis Murders

Two transgender teenagers were shot and killed 12 August 2002 in Southeast Washington -- a crime that police said was unusually violent and has left them with few leads. Best friends Stephanie (Wilbur) Thomas, age 19, and Ukea (Deon) Davis, age 18, were found in the front seat of Stephanie's Toyota Camry about 3:25 a.m. at 50th and C streets SE, Washington, DC.

Sgt. Brett Parson, who heads the D.C. police gay and lesbian liaison unit, said a witness reported seeing a man shooting into the Camry and then driving off in a large car, possibly a Ford Crown Victoria. Parson said police are not sure what sparked the shooting. Police are investigating several possibilities, he said, including that the deaths are a hate crime. As of late October 2002, DC Metropolitan Police had not arrested anyone associated with these murders.
